Tax Manager

See the job description and apply below!

At WG, we are on a mission to improve the public accounting experience and to create a firm so unique that ambitious professionals are willing to wait to join us and then stay for a meaningful career.

Our vision is to be known as the Michelin-Star Restaurant of public accounting. Exceptional and worth the wait. We believe outstanding client service is driven by technical excellence, strong leadership, and a commitment to doing things the right way.

Are you a tax professional who takes pride in doing exceptional work but keeps hitting walls at firms that don’t give you the tools, support, or environment to actually do it?

At WG, our tax department is different. Our tax managers don’t spend their days putting out fires or cleaning up after undertrained staff. They do real, complex, advisory-level work — with a team that’s held to the same high standards they are, processes that actually work, and leadership that’s always looking for smarter ways to do things.

If you believe great tax work is more than just checking boxes and filing volume — and you want to be somewhere that believes that, too — you might be exactly who we’re looking for.

What you’ll do:

  • Prepare/review federal and state corporate, individual, and partnership tax returns, including exercising professional judgment with respect to issue identification to develop solutions to tax issues in returns
  • Research tax issues and legislation, and interpret tax code
  • Make projections on future tax liabilities based on variable options to make client recommendations as part of the tax planning process
  • Interact with client personnel regarding tax return information, deadlines, etc., and keep the team informed on status
  • Look for opportunities to provide additional services to clients
  • Keep current on professional announcements and proactively participate in professional development opportunities
  • Initiate and develop a relationship with appropriate levels of the client’s management team
  • Provide training to co-workers on technical accounting areas or areas of tax expertise
  • Give insight and thought leadership to corporate publications regarding accounting and taxation

What you should bring:

Education and experience requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university
  • Master’s in Accounting or Taxation preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) License required

Our ideal applicant has:

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Adaptable and resourceful with high attention to detail
  • Technology savvy
  • Project management skills with the ability to successfully handle multiple clients’ needs simultaneously
  • Highly self-motivated and versatile
  • Works well under pressure; able to meet deadlines with accuracy
  • Dedication to self-improvement and an eagerness to grow in the public accounting profession

Qualifications:

  • Strong background as a Tax Manager
  • 4+ Years tax experience, 2+ years managing a team
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Must have strong technology skills and be proficient with all aspects of Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge and experience with Thomson Reuters UltraTax CS and Accounting CS, QuickBooks Online, and payroll providers such as Gusto is a plus
